Kimberly Atianzar, MD, is currently completing an advanced fellowship in structural heart disease at the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute (Seattle, WA). On top of training in general cardiology at Tulane University (New Orleans, LA) and interventional cardiology at the University of Massachusetts (Worcester, MA), she has also completed a fellowship in advanced cardiovascular imaging at the University of California, San Diego. Atianzar has proven herself as a strong advocate for women in cardiology—both patients and clinicians—and hopes to inspire other fellows through her blogging on TCTMD’s Fellows Forum. After training, she hopes to start or grow a structural heart disease program at an academic institution and continue mentoring fellows “because the world of interventional cardiology consists of constant learning and progression as newer technologies appear,” she says. Outside of the cath lab, Atianzar loves to explore new cuisines and travel with her fiancé, and she enjoys everything Disney and Harry Potter.
